A%22Frescoln%22%7D%5D%2C%22abstractNote%22%3A%22In%20recent%20years%2C%20many%20have%20debated%20adopting%20work%20requirements%20in%20the%20public%20housing%20program%2C%20and%20a%20limited%20number%20of%20public%20housing%20agencies%20%28PHA%29%20have%20implemented%20these%20policies%20through%20the%20flexibility%20provided%20by%20the%20Moving%20to%20Work%20program.%20One%20such%20agency%5Cu2014the%20Charlotte%20Housing%20Authority%20%28CHA%29%5Cu2014has%20implemented%20a%20work%20requirement%20across%20five%20%28of%2015%29%20public%20housing%20developments%20that%20mandates%20households%20to%20work%2015%20hr%20weekly%20or%20face%20sanctions.%20This%20article%20evaluates%20this%20policy%20and%20presents%20the%20first%20empirical%20analysis%20on%20the%20outcomes%20of%20a%20work%20requirement%20on%20employment%20and%20evictions.%20We%20find%20that%2C%20following%20work%20requirement%20enforcement%2C%20the%20percentage%20of%20impacted%20households%20paying%20minimum%20rent%20%28a%20proxy%20for%20nonemployment%29%20decreased%20versus%20a%20comparison%20group.%20Analysis%20of%20additional%20data%20on%20both%20employment%20and%20hours%20worked%20indicates%20similar%20results%20regarding%20employment%20gains%2C%20but%20no%20increase%20in%20average%20hours%20worked.%20We%20find%20no%20evidence%20that%20work%20requirement%20sanctions%20increased%20evictions%2C%20and%20very%20modest%20evidence%20that%20enforcement%20increased%20the%20rate%20of%20positive%20move-outs%20such%20as%20moves%20to%20unsubsidized%20housing.%22%2C%22date%22%3A%2211%5C%2F2016%22%2C%22language%22%3A%22en%22%2C%22DOI%22%3A%2210.1080%5C%2F10511482.2015.1137967%22%2C%22ISSN%22%3A%221051-1482%2C%202152-050X%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%5C%2F%5C%2Fwww.tandfonline.com%5C%2Fdoi%5C%2Ffull%5C%2F10.1080%5C%2F10511482.2015.1137967%22%2C%22collections%22%3A%5B%5D%2C%22dateModified%22%3A%222020-10-25T13%3A38%3A30Z%22%2C%22tags%22%3A%5B%7B%22tag%22%3A%22Charlotte%2C%20NC%22%7D%2C%7B%22tag%22%3A%22US%22%7D%2C%7B%22tag%22%3A%22employment%22%7D%2C%7B%22tag%22%3A%22evictions%22%7D%2C%7B%22tag%22%3A%22public%20housing%22%7D%2C%7B%22tag%22%3A%22public%20housing%20-%20US%22%7D%2C%7B%22tag%22%3A%22work%20requirements%22%7D%5D%7D%7D%5D%7D
